This is a resent series of work in which I repeatedly feature modern and geometric images of food using gouache and paper. Getting inspired in the ludicrous world of molecular food, I make paintings that exaggerate the playful toy-looking plates, dishes, cookies, cakes, etc. Since moving to Italy in 2013, I have been stimulated by their obsession with food and design.
In my practice oppositions try to coexist, a compulsive but also a very controlled technique go hand-in-hand. In my paintings I try to achieve painstakingly tridimensional effects but layering sometimes makes the opposite effect: it becomes a opaque surface more to do with accumulation and time than just pure optical illusions. I think the ethos of my work is the fixation with failure and process.
