Behind the Counter is an exhibition by Marisol Malatesta presented by Spazio Tilde as part of the 15th edition of the ArtDate Contemporary Art Festival, whose theme, “Silence”, invited reflections on the absence of words and sound, inner states, meditation, incommunicability, and stillness in its many forms.

The exhibition brings together 54 drawings created between 2016 and 2025, a body of work the artist kept unpublished while training as a baker. Conceived as a silent visual diary, these rapid and evocative sketches trace personal experiences, expectations, and everyday encounters through humorous scenes that explore the relationship between bread and the objects surrounding it.

Beneath their playful imagery, the drawings reveal subtle reflections on and critiques of the contemporary art world. Accompanying the exhibition is a self-published book that brings together the complete series of drawings presented in Behind the Counter.
