During a residency in Izmir, Turkey, Marisol spent a month creating new work while exploring her surroundings. During this time, she produced a new body of work for the exhibition Orange Beats Blue, Blue Beats Yellow, Yellow Beats Orange, which opened at Maquis Projects in Izmir before traveling to Galería Miro Quesada Garland in Lima in 2016.

Malatesta began with four old bricks found in the garden of the residency house, likely from a part of the building that no longer exists. Each brick bore a maker's mark, which she carefully revealed by sanding the surface. These marks became the starting point for a series of new works, including paintings and performances. In this way, the four ordinary bricks became the foundation of an imagined new culture.
She was interested in the traces that materials leave behind, the objects that once brought people together, and the way we replace older stories with new ones. This idea lies at the heart of her practice.

By transforming the marks found on old building materials into the basis of a new visual language, Malatesta suggests that the stories societies tell about their origins can be surprisingly arbitrary. These narratives shape who belongs and who is excluded, even when they are built on chance.
